Any non-Apple branded harddrive, needs a driver in the Mac. why? I dunno!
why did apple do it like that?*, even older Drive Setup versions would not
want to format it. Anyway a low-level format of a 10GB HD, in an old and
slow mac will in some cases take about 3-4 hours. I think yours might be
frozen. Try again. A low-level format is only needed if the drive is
formatted with blocks of a size other than 512. Of course the PC will do
that. Also remember to format on HFS+ so you can make the most of your
large drive, only do an HFS format if you have partitions smaller than 1
GB. You can also mix it, I have 2 HFS and 5 HFS+. The 2 are from 700MB
to1GB while the others range from 1.5GB to 2GB.

* thinking about it Apple may have done it so you would spend the money
you'd normally spend for FWB HardDisk Toolkit in an Apple branded
harddrive. It is very unfair there aren't many free options for format
programs! :-| Seeing it in another point of view there are lots of PC
things that are like that too, that's why Bill Gates was once accused of
having a monopoly.
