Both 8.1 and 8.6 have support for modem based Internet connections 
built in.   Mac computers have always had serial ports built in, 
including the ones you have, so you simply need to acquire a 
Macintosh serial modem for the computers.   The big difference in the 
Mac modems is that the serial connector is round.
