Count the pins. If it's 15 pins, it's an Apple II series 5.25". By the way,
since you bring it up, the 15-pin 5.25" drives were sold for the later IIe
and IIc systems as well as for the IIgs to replace the old ribbon-cable disk
][ drives (the black metal ones).

If it isn't, and it has an Apple logo, it could be part of that 5.25" kit as
someone else has suggested.

The 3.5" drives are fine and work without difficulty (I used one with my
IIci for some time). But don't even think about using the 5.25" drives.
