Windows uses a file naming system known as "Joliet" for long file names (256 chars?). In some ways its better than Macs which are still limited to 31 as far as I know, although in Windows you can't use certain characters like "&" and others. You can download a shareware utility called "Joliet Volume Access". The current version 2.0.3 supports OS7 to OS9. Go to versiontracker.com and search for "joliet". The utility enables MacOS to read the Joliet file system written onto a Windows CD-ROM. I deal with CD's all the time from clients who use Windows, and it works great. I can read their long file names, and when I burn a CD for them I specify "Allow Joliet (MS-DOS+Windows) Names". One thing to remember is that on the Windows side (Just as on Toast for Macintosh) it's still possible to burn CD's in plain ISO9660 format which only restricts file names to "8.3" characters. So your Windows user must be sure to burn the CD with Joliet/long file names enabled. Charles -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
