There is an excellent site with take-apart information on the internet that you can find by doing a search for "6400zone".
If that's not good enough email me off the list and I'll send you the Apple Service Manual for the 6500. If the hard drive in your 6500 is the ORIGINAL Western Digital Caviar 4-gig drive it will click but will not whine. My 6500 fan got VERY quiet when I tossed the 4-gig Caviar and put in a low speed 5400 RPM 40-gig WD. If the small fan on the 603e chip is the problem you can remove the motherboard and blow the dust bunnies off it. If the fan in the Power Supply is the problem it will vary in pitch when you load it up by inserting a floppy while there is a CD in the CD-ROM drive.
