For my iXMicro UltraRez, drivers are required. Which iXMicro card do you have? I believe that the iXMicro drivers are available from www.OtherWorldComputing.com (free download, IIRC)
BTW, my iXMicro UltraRez does work with system 8.6, without drivers, but slowly, and not very "stable-ly".
