I haven't done it in a while but forgot that if you updated to 9.2, 
you can no longer access your installer. One of the many great 
features of updating.  But if you only installed 9.1, you should be 
able to  double click your installer; it will say you have already 
installed OS 9.1, do you want to remove or add. You then click you 
want to add. You will see a button "Customize" which you click. You 
will see Mac OS 9, Internet Access, Apple remote access and so on. 
Uncheck everything except "Mac OS 9. To the right, you will see 
recommend installation. Toggle down to "customized installation". 
Scroll down till you see "Video" click on the triangle and as you 
look down, you will see: Apple ix3D Graphic

Make sure they are checked but uncheck everything else.

One workaround if you have 9.2 installed is if you happened to have 
another hard drive or partition without an OS installed, you can put 
them there. Always nice to have more than one partition. Or someone 
could send them to you and keep a copy of them around.
