I've never checked actual numbers, but I get very smooth 320x240 or 640x480 with
no dropped frames. I haven't tried larger, but the capabilities are there for up
to 1800x1200 with my existing configuration.

I can digitize from VCR tape, DVD, or TV, edit and upload to VCR tape (which is
30 FPS I believe) and see no difference in speed and no apparent dropped frames.
I don't have DVD writing capabilities, yet.

I'm far from stock, with a G3, Rage pro, SCSI 3, etc., so my numbers would be
much higher than a stock 8600. If I went all out and upgraded to G4/800,
Firewire and a high dollar video/capture card, the numbers would probably rival
main frame specs.

I had a VVS in my 840 AV and whatever their specs may say, I couldn't get more
than 15 FPS @ 640x480. Much of that was probably the old, slow SCSI drives, even
though I had them in a raid configuration. The AV chipset let my 68040 process
video faster than a friend's comparably equipped 7100/80. It might be noted that
the 68040's CPU actually runs at 80 MHZ, but is slowed to 40 MHZ in the bus,
like the 601/80 in the 7100. The only way I could get close to 30 FPS (actually
I remember I topped at about 26 FPS) was @ 320x240. My friend's 7100/80 topped
at about 24 FPS.
