Do some math ... at least 6 128MB sticks, a video card, a good ATA card
... add all that up, add shipping, and tax.

What can you get for the 7300 as is, or part it out ... but be realistic !!

How much for a 8600 or 9600 ??
The Powerlogix G3 350/175 upgrade will go into an 8600/9600 I believe.
You'll prolly still have to add RAM, so add in that cost ...
The drives will move over ... Add the cost of bezel/shipping for the Zip
Add in a possible video card ... add the ATA controller
Add shipping ...

> for almost the same price I could get a B&W G3 around 350 MHz.

The above computations give an approximation of $$ you've got to spend
toward a Blue & White.
You'll prolly add RAM, but 256MB modules will cost about the same as 128MBs
for the 7300/8600/9600.
ATA bus already there ... should have at least a 6MB HD, 24x CD, Zip ...
Comes w/ATi Rage 16 MB video card ...
Doesn't get much easier to work on ...

> able to attach my 4 gig SCSI drive to the G3 without a controller?

No. the Yosemite came sans SCSI, unless it was Built To Order w/a SCSI card
in a PCI slot.
Check OWC for cost of SCSI PCI card, add a ribbon cable, a sled ...

> I've heard that the B&W has a 100 MHz bus speed.

> Would I see a big speed increase?

I think the B&W G3/350 will seem considerably faster than your 7300 w/G3/350
or a 8600/9600 w/G3/350, because the over all system is faster.

I have a PM 6500 w/a G3/500 in it, (603ev/275 original). It's pretty fast,
but when I do the same work, games, etc. on my G4/350 Yikes, the Yikes seems
faster. (w/out altivec the G3 and G4 process in pretty much the speed range)
I think the difference is the over all newer/stronger system. YMMV ...
Price out B&Ws. Watch eFray for average.
