My stereo component CD changer is also a DVD changer. But my tv is too old to connect to it (it has a standard RF connector, not a digital or s-link or s-video connector). So I thought: why not connect it to my computer, and watch DVD's (and VCD's) on it? After all, I have a complete 8500 AV connectivity set back there. S-video, etc.
So. Before I even try this - before I move my stereo set next to my computer - I thought I'd ask for some help. 1. A simple s-video connection to the back of my computer will be fine, no? And the RCA outs on the DVD changer go right to my RCA sound-in plugs on my computer, right? 2. What software will allow me to watch the input signal? I have a copy of Avid VideoShop 3.0 that I could load on my computer, but that's for a much earlier Mac. Is there something better? 3. Do people use iMovie for this stuff nowadays? 4. Will it be necessary to install OS 9.x on my machine? I have OS 8.6 now. But I do have an OS 9.2.1 disk, but haven't tried this yet, because, well, I found the help on OS9forever.com to be confusing! 5. Is there an adapter that would allow me to use my old TV set with its old standard cable to connect to the outs on my more modern CD/DVD changer - so I could forget about this whole computer/stereo connectivity problem? There are probably thousands of questions I could be asking. But I'll stop now, trying to be brief.... t -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
