She has a straight cable from the modem to the 7500. No router, hub or
switch......

Turns out she left the house this morning with the system working again, after
calling the cable co. she canceled the tech appointment telling them it was
working. She got back home before lunch and it was not connected (again), She
called me and I went out and tested the system with my laptop. The data light
on the modem was flashing (normal I guess), I switched cables to one of mine
and back to hers and both worked fine. I was able to find my laptop using file
sharing when I connected to her machine. So the ethernet does work!!!

Then when I reattached it to the modem it worked again. I left telling her to
call if it happens again. She has decided to change to DSL and it will be
installed at the end of the month...... good bye cable......... good bye
problem!

Problem solved, at least at the end of the month........
