Unfortunately, that is not clear cut... it depends on where in line you 
put it, what machine you put it on, what OS you're running, and how many 
pin you have in the voodoo doll and where.  The majority of the time, if 
you have a quality adapter, that's the only place you need jumpers.  I 
just finished playing for about four days (off and on) with an old 
Seagate.  It needed one of the jumpers on the drive and the rest on the 
adapter.  Have fun.......!!!!
