Hello. I just bought an old version of Microsoft Word for Macintosh - version 4.0 [for $1.50 at the Salvation Army, what did I have to lose?].
When I installed it on my PowerMac 9500/200 and then tried to run it, I got an "Error 3" error message, saying that I should save documents, close all applications, and restart the computer. I went into Apple Help, and it suggested that I change the memory settings for this program [it said that Error 3 is a memory error]. I tried various numbers [switching the minimum to 512K, which was the recommended memory based on the "Apple-I" information window, and trying various numbers for the maximum, altho' the Apple Help didn't say what to change the max. number to], but that didn't seem to help. I also turned off all of the extensions using the extension manager, but I still couldn't get Word to work. Here are some specs that might help: capacity of HD: 1.96 GB space available on HD: 1.61 GB memory used on HD: 364.3 MB Built-in memory: 128MB Virtual memory: 129 MB used on HD largest unused block: 112.6MB MacOS 16.9 MB [I have MacOs 9] System Requirements [listed on Microsoft Word box]: 512K memory 2 disk drives or 1 disk-drive and a HD Macintosh 512K Enhanced, Plus, SE, or II [of course, my model is much later] System version 3.2 or higher: Finder version 5.3 or higher Supports the AppleTalk Network If anyone has any ideas on how to get this software to work on my Mac, I'd really appreciate it.
