Hello to all againJanuary 6, 2003
I have to tell this story one more time because I'm getting tired of the
serial port problem.
After a clean install of Mac Os 8.6, I had left the Comm II modem installed
thinking that it would work ? Wrong !
Now after I remove this card the computer won't boot unless I turn off
extensions.
The serial port that was plugged, blocked by Apple from day one, can't be
selected in the modem control panel.
where is the problem? Was it because I installed Os 8.6 with the CommII card
in place, and the application that makes Comm II card isn't there anymore. I
think so because as I read other list serv's post's from the past, I see
that people have a work around for this problem.
Remembering that Apple put these card's in from the factory and blocked the
serial port. Other people tell me that they remove the card and there serial
port work's fine.
What to do next ???
Thanks for listing and Helping

Hello Chris,
I use the Comm Slot II modem in my Twentieth Anniversary Mac. This was an OEM modem purchased by Apple from Global Village .In system 8.6 you need Globalfax
SW version 2.6.5 which you purchase on a cd-rom from GV. Zoom (www.zoomtelephonics.com) bought GV , ask their tech support if they still have any old stock that will sell you. Also on the GV site there should be a V.90 firmware update to 56K.
