Sionnach,

I have a 7300 upgraded with an xlr8 MachSpeed G3/300, 500+mb running OS X
10.2.3 with TwinTurbo 128 video card. The machine ran quite slowly when I
first installed OS X; it was so bad I thought that I was working on my old
IIvx (an old 68k machine)! A couple of people on the list suggested
downloading a patch from OWC to enable the L2 cache and, after installing
it, I found the comp worked much better, though the machine is still faster
in OS 9.2.2. In either OS there are no stability problems and since I like
the features in OS X, I use it more than OS 9. There is still more tweaking
I can do, for instance, my card can be adjusted for both bus speed and
processor speed; currently the bus is set at 45mhz, but actually can run at
50mhz or possibly 55mhz without becoming unstable. One day I may take some
time to try it. Note, too, that I am using a slower G3 upgrade than most
here have used, 300 vs 350 or 400 or 500. The thing is, I like it fine and
can play around to make it better. It really depends on what you want and
what you think it is worth to you. Some folks have asked me why I've put
down around $200 on a machine that's old. My answer is "because I've
enjoyed working and learning about how the thing works." And I'll keep at,
too. I think I'm addicted!

Best of luck to you!
