Not infrequently when I open up a new page on a Web browser, or perform some other computer-churning command, the cursor stalls for a moment, and the CD-ROM whines up, as if the computer were referencing information on that device to perform the task.
So, would the task be performed faster if no CD were in the drive? Why does the computer do this?
