I have a 9500 with a Sonnet G3-400/512. Extras include a Sonnet ata-100 card with a 40GB drive 7200rpm attached & USB card.
Currently, I'm at 340mb of mixed sized ram from 128mb pieces right down to 4mb pieces, all 12 slots are full. I'm running Jaguar now, and it seems to be going well. The speed is not quite what I'd like, but it's acceptable. My question is, will adding extra ram, let's say an extra 256mb really show a difference in regular use? I don't run any games, or heavy graphics. It's just a machine to surf the web, import digital photos, and some MS-Office work, that's it. While surfing the web (with DSL) it seems that the pages take longer to load than they should. I have a low-end PC-laptop on the same home network, and it loads pages a lot quicker. I'm really new to using mac's and I'd just like to get the speed of the web surfing & maybe photo manipulation (iPhoto) boosted a little bit. In OS 9, the performance is also not what I'd like. Will more ram than 340mb help that or would it be just overkill? Any other performance tips would be greatly appreciated. thanks. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
