It seems to me that the more memory you have in the machine, the more memory that the OS will take for itself, and becomes faster in the process. If left in auto mode, the hard disk cache will also set itself to a greater amount of RAM as your installed RAM increases. I have a 9500 that also has all 12 RAM slots filled with everything from a couple of 128 meggers, 64, and lots of old 16 megs. Never had any problems with them.
