lately I have become more and more aware of seeing macs being used as props on camera, all over the place in TV shows, as an integral part of the equipment they are relying on during the plotline of the show. This brings a smile to my face. I propose a game we can have, onrunning here, as a side note. To wit--any time you see a mac being used in a TV show or a movie, see if you can ID what it is and what it's being used for and pop it up here.. I beleive advertisers call this the all important 'product placement' visibility.
I'll go first: the TV show "CSI"( las vegas) has macs all over the crime lab. most conspicuous is the new dome iMac, which so far I have seen at least once in every episode. "24" had one of the larger screen mac notebooks in the office of "Bob Warner", in the episode when 'Reza' goes in with the federal agent, to show him the company's records, searching for the electronic trail of who had access, and who was party to the mysterious transfers of money to the terrorist, at the heart of the season's plotline. The apple logo was clearly shown on the lid of the notebook on the expensive desk, and the startup chimes came out loud and clear when he booted up. I unfortunately don't know all my macs or their chimes yet, so I can't ID it, but it wasn't an 'icebook', I know that much. Now I'm looking closely at the props in every show I watch, watching for macs. If you watch TV, or movies, join the game. If you spot one, post it here!
