 I cannot check for problems on the 9600 because I cannot open ANY
 application... it crashes every time I try (with extensions enabled).
 Can't use Conflict Catcher, even!

   It won't find any conflicts if extensions are disabled, will it?
Start with extensions off. If it works, load Conflict Catcher by hand (Three parts, extension, reference (In extension folder) and Control panel. Then add a couple at a time (al la CC) until it crashes. Then try to run CC. If not, you can always do the CC thing by yourself.
