No surprise here.

MEK (for styrene) and Pro-Weld (for ABS, etcetera) are performing a "fusion" 
weld, not a surface weld as cyanoacrylate or epoxy would do.

Once you attempt a fusion weld, you're pretty much stuck with that technology.

Likewise, once you attempt a surface weld, you're pretty much stuck with that 
technology, too.

There is a modified epoxy dubbed cyanopoxy by its inventor, which may be 
useful for some applications, such as certain "engineered plastics" (Delrin, 
et. al.) which can't be dissolved by any conventional solvent, and on which 
epoxy is ineffective.
