Learning a few MacsBug commands can be useful.  It gives you the 
opportunity to gracefully quit dying applications, avoiding file 
system corruptions.  And it will often let you do an orderly restart 
after things have "frozen", again avoiding file system corruptions.

You really only need three commands:

ES - exit (quit) the current application.

RS - orderly restart

RB - holey crap boot NOW (equiv of hitting the hard reset button)

And one macro:

Stdlog

which generates a sweet log file you can email to developers.  Good 
reading that.
