They're fairly readily avaiable, though largly unimportant with today's power-saving monitors. The original idea was to have the monitor shut off with the computer, which was a nice feature Back In The Day. These days, they're mainly useful for freeing up space as you're interested in :) Try the swap list, or just about any computer store should have it.
