All I'm saying is that sometimes we create problems by clinging to what we are used to or what has always worked in the past. As I said, I love OS 7.6.1. If I get an '030 Mac, it's the first OS I put on it. It's also a great OS for '040s or early unaccelerated Power Macs. But when you're playing with high-end apps or DSL it seems like asking for trouble. In terms of compatibility or stability. One could argue that DSL -- like any internet-related process -- is a matter of protocols and not OS IF the OS is capable of the protocols. Obviously AOL is OS 8.6 capable. Or at least, some version of it is. As for word processing programs, MS Word 5.1 works with OS 8.6 as do most Apple apps. So, absent some programs that don't work with later Apple OSes, you should be fine. You've got the processing speed to use OS 8.6 and it seems counter-productive not to use it.
