2 GB for a DDS-1 and 4 GB for a DDS-2, assuming 90 meter and 120 meter tapes, 
respectively. (A 60 meter tape was also supported by the DDS-1 drive).

The DDS-2 drive could accept DDS-1 tapes, so there was upward compatibility 
in the -1 to -2 direction. The DDS-2 drive had hardware compression, the 
DDS-1 didn't.
