Jaco, I have the same model. It only has two slots, total. If it shipped with 32, you or someone else installed a 16. Take out the 16 and add a 64, which will give you 96. You could take out the 32 also, and put in two 64's, but that's up to you. You need 168pin 5v EDO DIMMS.
You can put it in yourself. Once you pull out the logic board, don't move around the room a lot, and especially don't shuffle your feet around on a carpet. Static electricity is bad for your computer. The safest way is to use a grounding strap, if you have access to one. Unplug everything from the tower except the power cord. Touch the empty PCI slot covers with your fingers to discharge the static electricity buildup in your body. Now unplug the power cord. Removc the two screws that hold the logic board sled in place and pull on the two tabs to slide it out. Place it on a soft surface, such as thick magazines and snap the memory board into place. There are tabs at each end of the socket that have to be flipped outward before you insert the RAM. It will snap into place (it can only go in one way, so line up the notches in the bottom of the RAM board with the socket. The tabs will flip back up when you press it into place. Be very careful not to bend the long row of contacts along the edge of the logic board when you press it into place. Slide the board back into the rails inside the tower and reinstall the two screws. Plug everything back in and start up. When you reach the desktop, go to the Apple menu and launch Apple System Profiler to see if it recognizes the new RAM. Let us know how you make out. I bought RAM from Velocity Upgrades with no problem, but others on the list(s) have had problems with their RAM. I also purchased from MemoryToGo and CoastToCoast Memory, with no problems. Make sure that what you buy has a lifetime waarranty. Cheers, John On 2/15/2003 1:42 AM, "Jaco Els" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I have a Power Mac 6500/250 (standard in all respects).
