Can anyone help us? Both [EMAIL PROTECTED] and myself have had the same problem with a 5500 and the installation of a new hard drive. Installing the hard drive is fine, and initialization works. In my case, I even did a low level format and zeroed out data (as my HD came from a retired wintel)
When I/we try to install system software (7.6.1 or 8.5) weird error messages come up. When booting from cd, error messages. Hard drive works, but wont accept system software. Wont even tolerate having the System CD. Okay. First tried different Sys.CD. Same problem. Put in spare CD drive (faster): Same problem Put in fresh PRAM battery: same problem Put HD in different machine, loaded software. HD works. Transfer HD to "problem machine" System extension problem (and no, disabling extensions doesn't help either.) Put HD and mobo from working machine in Problem machine: Same problem. All the parts are good. Sys. CD, CD drive, Hard drive, Mobo. Put them all together: no joy. There doesnt seem to be a software workaround as the HD wont even boot, so resetting pram, etc. isn't currently the answer. cbirds told me: Mine started out with what I thought was a munged HD......it just would not take any system at all. So I put in a new HD, and it acted the same. The installers on ANY system just would not work....and kept quitting with all sorts of weird errors. I could initialize both drives easily but installation was a no go. I heard that these machines have had this trouble, and there is a way around it..what is it??? Anyone know the workaround? Obi-wan? Anybody? __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
