Hello, welcome to the 6500 happy family! I have a 6500/275. Before that, I
was with a 7200/120 which is a 601 chip. I worried that the 6500 wich I
bought almost used but in mint condition would be slower. In fact it is not
that much faster but more and more I use it, more and more I can feel the
upgrade. The only downgrade is the max RAM. Here's for you. Like me, you
wanted to know what meant the "ev".

603ev, 603p (Valiant)
The 603e got a second bump with a processor called the 603ev (valiant) - but
the names were only used inside of development. The manufacturing changes
allowed for more speed and lower cost - they did not change the design (just
how it was made), so outside of development circles it is known as the 603e
(just like the other 603e, only at faster MHz).

603r, 603er (Goldeneye)
The 603e got another manufacturing change (code named GoldenEye), which lead
to even faster 603e's -- up to 300MHz. Again, this did not significantly
change the design of the chip. So outside of development circles it is still
called the 603e.

Go to http://www.mackido.com/Hardware/G2.html, you'll leanr all you need to
know about 601, 603 and 604 processors.

Happy 6500

Germain
