You can buy a PCI card to run IDE drives on the 8500, but the problem with most of these is that they mimic a SCSI card and any drive attached must be initialized as such. Another words you would have to reinitialize the drive from the iMac to use it and vise versa. Some of the newer cards, such as the Sonnet Tempo Trio, are seen as IDE cards. These are more expensive, significantly so in the case of the Trio which also has Firewire and USB on it. I would think so but I'm not sure if you can use the drive on them without initializing. If you know someone with an IDE Mac you're best bet would be to borrow it, install the drive, and move your files over a network to the 8500.
