Hi, I recently installed a 4 port PCI Firewire card in my 7300. What's weird about this card is that it has a plug on it that plugs into the computer power supply (the same one used by the hard drive and CD-ROM). I know the card works fine since I tried it on my B&W (without any extra power plugged into it) and it worked great with my external firewire DVD player. However, I've been having problems when using it with my 7300. I recently upgraded the 7300 to an XLR8 ZIF carrier w/an Apple G3/300 ZIF (overclocked to 350). BTW I'm running OS 9.1. When I tried to connect the DVD player to it and turned it on, the mouse moves but everything else is frozen. When I turn off the DVD player it goes back to normal. I tried plugging in my iPod and this time it turned the iPod on but instead of mounting it it simply said that is was ok to disconnect the iPod. Again the screen froze until I disconnected the iPod. When I ran iMovie2.1.1 it recognized the firewire and correctly stated that my camera was disconnected (I had no camera attached to it). I know that, as other people have mentioned, system profiler will NOT list a firewire card. It simply says that there is a card in my PCI slot. Is there any possibility that I would be able to connect a firewire hard drive to this thing? OR knowing how the DVD player behaved a firewire hard drive would not work?
I've had it plugged into the computer power supply as well as have had it unplugged. Thanks in advance. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
