HAPL! I rarely bang on this list for help, but when I do... My PM8500-180 (304MB, 2GB, stock 180Mhz.) is incommunicado for Internet, so I'm using my G'friend's PM6100(still pluggin' along...)
PROBLEM (?) Norton Util's report that the TP-DNR folder and files (under OS 8.6) are CORRUPTED. This (evidently) prevents the machine from talking IP-TCP with my cablemodem. I don't have a serial modem for my Mac, as I've used the cablemodem for 2+ years. NOW, I rescued the PM8500 from a friend who was about to trash it for a G4 OSX machine. The original install disks were gone, I had only the existing OS8.5 install on the machine. I upgraded the 8.5 to 8.6 with the 30MB OS8.6 download, sweet, but I don't have an OS8.5 backup/restore disk! BUMMER. SO! Can I please get a TP-DNR folder and all associated files from someone on the list? Additionally, is there a way to get hold of another OS8.5 backup disk?!? I'm really aware of how vulnerable I've become without a backup. Is there a way to get this disk readily, or are they forever gone? If the original install disk is gone, can I legally accept a "gift" of a backup disk for OS 8.5? Questions: why do these files become corrupted? Are they inadvertently overwritten? This is the original 2Gig disk. Is this a sign I should just move to a new disk (which is where I was heading, anyway...) Any help will be greatly appreciated. Tx, Dick Busch.
