Donald,

I've never worked with a 9500, but on the 9600 there are two internal 
SCSI connectors on the board. One is the fast 10MB/sec. bus and the 
other accesses the slower, external 5MB/sec. bus. On the 9600 board, the 
fast SCSI connector is nearest the edge of the board.

What is the short SCSI cable connected to, if anything? If there is a 
device connected it too requires termination. But I assume all the 
native devices would be on one cable, connected to the fast SCSI bus. 
You don't want your hard drive on the slower bus if that's where it is.
