Scsi voodoo is a favorite topic on this list.
Tools Drive setup and Disk First Aid are in the Utilities folder of OS 
cd. I guess thats the first place to start. If the cd drive works I, 
wrongly perhaps, assume the cables ok, swap it with one that looks ok if 
the basic tools fail to bring you joy.
Both programs are easy enough to use.
