Two questions: 1) I have heard many people recommend System 8.6 over 8.5, but I haven't really been sure as to what the advantages were. I am currently using 8.5 on my PM 8500/120, 160 MB RAM. Used for basic web browsing, gaming, word processing, etc. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." I really have no problems, other than the rare system freeze (usually my fault, a few remain undiagnosed). Of course I want it to do more and do it faster, just like everybody else. So my question is, should I upgrade to 8.6? I am a little hesitant, because when I went from 7.5.2 to 8.5, I had a lot of trouble, had to re-initialize the hard disk, etc. I know there may be no one clear cut answer, I just want the group's opinion.
2) Somebody clear me up about ROM images. I have been to the pickle's FAQ's and I have lurked around here for a while. I am trying to get vMac to work on the aforementioned machine (just for fun) and I realize that I need a ROM image from a Mac II. I vaguely remember somebody mentioning this before, regarding the legality of trading disk images. So, assuming I can buy a cheap Mac II somewhere, how do I get a copy of the ROM image, or whatever? Something about Disk Copy (a utility from Apple). I downloaded it (Disk Copy), but it doesn't like my setup on the 8500. (I need to investigate that). I feeling sort of lost, so I was wondering if the group could tell me or point me to more information on the subject. (I've Googled, but to minimal use. Maybe I'm just dense).
