If I disconnect the 9600/200 (G3 upgrade, OS 9.1) the clock reverts to 1957 and the time is lost. I thought the problem was the PRAM battery, but fitting a new one (it's fresh too, not NOS) hasn't made any difference. This is the 9600 with odd problems...

Ideas?

While a low battery can cause the clock to do that, replacing it is not enough. After replacing the battery, you also need to reset the CUDA. Failure to do so will drain the battery in a matter of days or weeks, instead of years.
