had a similar problem with mine, wouldn't boot frqm the CD I was upgrading from OS 8 to 9.1
So I let it boot up in OS 8 then placed the OS 9.1 CD in the CD ROM drive opened the window and installed from there
It worked, worth a try ( but as I write I'm desperately trying to think if you have to go to OS 8 from 7.5 before you can install OS 9.1
You can but try

I picked up a used Power Mac 5400/180 running System 7.5 and decided to try to upgrade it as far as I could. Taking it from 16 MB of memory to 136 MB was a piece of cake, but I'm having problems upgrading it from 7.5 to OS 9.1, which according to Apple's web site isas high as I can go. I ordered an OS 9.1 full install CD online and when I try to upgrade and boot from the CD by holding down the C key, the CD-Rom drive spins and the computer locks up after about 10 to 15 seconds. It will boot off of the original system 7.5 CD. Any ideas?
TIA,
Rich
