I finally figured out how to set filters in Eudora 5.1.1.
Upgrade to 5.2.1. It contains a number of critical bug fixes over 5.1.1.
Problem is, now I'm finding that messages I WANT, which have no relationship to addresses or subjects I've set filters for, are disappearing into the trash (where I have chosen as the filtered-message repository).
Is this normal?
Selecting to put things directly into the Trash mailbox, where they're at risk of being deleted without being visually checked first while you're debugging your filters? No, that's not normal.
For filters to trigger and do what they're supposed to, yes, that's normal. Silly filters tho - they function on a do-what-I-say (DYIS), not a do-what-I-mean (DWIM) system.
I have looked at the filters list under Window menu... no, the address and subject of the trashed but desired message does not appear there.
Sounds like your filters just aren't right.
1. Move things into a "junk" mailbox, not the Trash.
2. Remember that a different filter from the one you think worked may have actually done the deed.
3. Add some "debugging code". Have a filter first change the message's label. That way you can see that that specific filter was triggered.
How can you trust the filters not to remove such items? If you have to check the trash every time you load a queue, you might as well not have filters at all.
*shrug* I have dozens of filters, and they all work just fine.
