I trashed the ones that looked like they may have something to do with network access and it fixed the problem - The genius award today goes to k.

well - I trash it the way that first I'll leave the preference folder on the desktop and restart and let the OS create a new one,
in this case it would be all that are chooser connected, + finder prefs, app switcher prefs, appletalk prefs, aslm prefs, app share prefs, mac os prefs and systemprefs, I also trash copy paste and window monkey prefs - because those 2 sometimes makes a strange mess, also extension managers prefs can cause strange errors. Let the OS create a new prefs folder, and manually put back all the other ones from within the old folder - do not move back the entire folder, replacing the newly made one - that sometimes made the errors reoccur even if the prefs were ok.
