Then.... (!!)

...The other day the light flicked off/on in my office building. Not even enough for the digital clocks to do the "blinking 12:00" routine. But AFTER that, my HD seemed to be, well ... noisier.

Now, when it is doing heavy cipherin,' it sounds like someone is dragging a saw across a concrete floor. Like a metal against metal GRINDING ... but other than the rather disconcerting noise, it still operates within normal parameters.

What has happened to my lil' hard drive??

Don't know what happened to your lil' hard drive but this is why I tell people "BUY A UPS!!!".

Even the cheapest APC units (350VA desktop jobbies are $40 at Office Max) are a vast improvement over nothing or the usual 5-year old (worthless) surge protector.

It's blackouts and brownouts and power blips and surges like these that KILL your computers.

Even if you drop $100-$150 for one of the higher end units...what is your system and your data worth to you?

If it's less than $150 then by all means continue on without one...
