Is this unit hard wired to the battery or is it attempting to hook into a 15-20 amp.
cigarette lighter plug?

I used a 1500 W unit in my 18 wheeler that used automotive jumper cables (4 gauge) for
its direct cabling to my batteries. (4 large batteries in my truck charged by a 300
amp. alternator.)

1 KW (1000 watts) @ 12 volts is an 83.33 amp. maximum load draw. Naturally, the lower
the power requirements of the AC devices the lower the current draw of the inverter,
but try to draw more than your batteries and alternator are capable of supplying will
give you a brown out. JC Whitney lists the 1000 Watt Xantrex at $299.99. A $70 unit
has to be a second or really cheapened model. (Usually the cheap inverters, skimp on
low voltage protection and ripple free voltage supply circuits.)
