Hi, Folks,

I am having problems getting online. After a recent storm, I cannot get
online and am getting the following message in the Apple Remote Access
message box:

"The modem is not responding properly. Reset the modem. Check its
connections, and check that the correct port and modem type are selected
in the Modem control panel."

When I try to open the Modem control panel, I get this message:

"The application 'Modem' could not be opened because 'AppleGuideGlueLib'
could not be found."

1. Is my internal 56k modem shot? Can it be replaced by me?

Possibly, and yes.

2. How do I get into the Modem control panel? Where do I find the
application listed? I have run Find and looked in my system and in
various OS CDs I have and can find neither hide nor hair of
'AppleGuideGlueLib'.

Try tossing the Modem control panel prefs. Corrupted prefs files could cause these sorts of problems, too. But check that AppleGuide is enabled.

In my experience, with a fried modem, the damage is usually on the phone-line side of the system, and the error you get is that the other side did not answer, or no dial tone is detected.

Get the Modem control panel going first.
