Maybe try to remove both XLR8 control panel _and_ XLR8 extension (the XLR8
installer has an "Uninstall" option). Install PowerLogix G3/G4 Profiler
instead, it does basically the same that XLR8 Speed Control extension
(enables the cache), but from what I can see it is much more stable and
causes less conflicts with other extensions or control panels. I have both
Profiler and Toast Reader extensions enabled, and there are no conflicts.
