I'm on a dial-up connection at home, and I would hate to have to download all of those files again if I needed to.

Not normally, but there is a checkbox you can set to 'save the installers locally' . Where it saves them, then I don't know. I do all my updates via sneakernet from work, downloading to a pc and burning a CD every week or two.
