The 1500 uses either a black or a 3 color cartridge. They are the same carts as the 2500, iirc. It is just that the advantage of the 2500 was that it held both the black and color carts at the same time where the 1500 held one or the other. The 1500 uses the cannon cartridge BC-02 for black, I am not sure of the color carts number.
I have had one for years and am just getting ready to give it up because I have gone to X full time at home and serial printers are not supported under X.
As a desperation measure, before you spring for a new cart, you may want to try and clean the nozzle with some alcohol on a clean cloth. The ink my have dried on it.
