Kevin noted;

    I keep finding "Rescued items from hard drive" in my trash can. The
folders contain internet explorer cache and something else I never heard of.
Does anybody know what these things are and what is causing them? Could it
be a virus? My wife's PC had some kind of virus and it shares a DSL
connection with my Mac. I have also sent and receives e-mail from her PC.
Could that be the problem and how could I check?

Have you had freezes or crashes ? Probably so. You will also most probably notice that when you boot or reboot your disk is scanned, verified
and repaired .
You may or may not also see a panel saying your machine was not shut down properly.

I doubt very much any virus is involved. but if you notice no crash/ freeze, then perhaps someone who does not know how to shut down a Mac is accessing your 'puter !
