I keep finding "Rescued items from hard drive" in my trash can. The
folders contain internet explorer cache and something else I never heard of.
Does anybody know what these things are and what is causing them? Could it
be a virus? My wife's PC had some kind of virus and it shares a DSL
connection with my Mac. I have also sent and receives e-mail from her PC.
Could that be the problem and how could I check?

Some applications, including Internet Explorer, create temporary files, that get deleted when the application is quit. But if your Mac crashes, or if you shut it down the wrong way, those temporary items end up in the trash. In earlier versions of the OS, these temporary items would just be lost in an improper shutdown, but now they are saved in the trash. Occasionally, with some apps, if you check the Rescued Items folder, you might be able to find some work you lost during the crash.
