Hi Everyone,

I'm having problem with geting my Beige G3 thats upgraded to a g4 Encore 400mhz, 768mb of ram 3 80gb hardrives,Tempo ATA 133 pci card, Radeon 7000 pci, Yamaha 24x16x40x, Firewire/USB 2.0 card to install OSX 10.2. I've tried everything that I know that would help from Sonnet OSX Installer to Xpostfactor. I thought these computers were OSX compatible. Could someone please offer some advice.

Here's some advice: specify the exact problem you're having!

Will it not boot from the CD?

Have you installed it and it won't run?

Will it not install?

What happens when you try to boot from the CD?

1) The Beige G3 does not need XPostFacto or the Sonnet extensions to install.

2) You need a *bootable* CD drive. I don't know if that Yamaha is.

3) You will have to install OSX into a < 8GB partition on one of your drives. It needs to be the first partition on that drive.

4) Where is the drive you're trying to install it on located? On the motherboard or the Tempo card?

5) Do you have a monitor on the internal video? It's quite frustrating to boot to a black screen, when the system is patiently waiting for you to respond to the prompt on a monitor that's not connected to the system :-/

6) Try returning it to a base hardware configuration. Pull all the expansion cards, connect a drive to the internal bus, and a monitor to the internal video. Add them back one at a time. Corollary to this: you may need to swap cards around, sometimes they're sensitive to which slot they're in.

7) Some G3's are just plain resistant to OSX. I know someone who was unable to get it to install on his system no matter what. It eventually needed a motherboard swap..twice before he got one that worked. (And the motherboards that were swapped out *worked* with OSX in other systems!)

8) This should really be on the G-list, the topic police are going to complain.
