Actually both are. I have six 5400s that I've reclaimed and purchased a couple of 128 MB sticks. Four of them will see the full 256 MB and are stable, one refused to boot and the other kinda sees it but gets very flaky when trying to do anything.

Looks like I have a decent chance of my Mac working with 256 MB.
