Reinstalling IE:
I only suggested this because, installing 8.6 may have overwritten some of the required extensions for IE, and by installing IE again, the newer versions needed for the browser to run will be replaced.
I've used 5.1.6 and it's fine.......
the 5.1 version does not place anything in the extension folder, apart from
Microsoft Component Library
no extension is needed, unless you run outlook or some other microsoftneeding application - the browser just uses that one extension
and reinstalling the IE does not equal that it will take out any old extensions from your extension folder - it does not kindly remove anything - it just lets them pile up more and wasting space and maybe lots of problem. When I checked I had internet explorer 3 - 4 & 5 in there, so my suggestion remains throw microsoft extensions all out and use 5.1 and up. My experience is that 5.1.6 does not work with 8.6 on a PCI, you need to go back to 5.1 and not 5.0 - because the are quite different.
