Not really a topic for the PCI PowerMac list, but would be happy to continue
this discussion either off list or on the 1st PowerMacs list.

Generally I find the 6100 a very good machine for my personal interests. I
have three in the house. My spouse and I use 6100's running OS 8.6 with 264 MB
RAM and 300 MHz G3 upgrades. They serve as our main connection to our dial-up
Internet connection. I'm using one now writing this post.

No problem with MS Word 5.1, Quicken, PageMaker 6.5, Acrobat 4.0. PhotoShop
4.0 for modest graphics needs. iTunes 1.1 runs fine with the OS 8.6 patch.
Toast Titanium 5.0 has no problems burning audio or data CD's. I have no
experience with video.

The cons: no USB, no FireWire and no OS X.

My third 6100 has only 72 MB RAM and a 210 MHz G3. It replaced a 7500/200 to
serve as the brains of my stereo -- no problems using it to convert old LP's
and cassette tapes to audio files which can be burned to CD's on my other 6100.

Despite their age and limitations IMHO the 6100's still have some mileage
left. Go for it! --glen
